Shibari Technical Consolidation Classes

Shibari Technical Consolidation Classes

These classes are particularly useful for returning to or elevating your practice through a logical system, correcting ineffective habits, and discovering new approaches.

They are intended for anyone who wants to study a technique in depth or overcome a plateau in their shibari progression.

If you have already explored shibari but feel that certain elements are not flowing as they should, this workshop provides a space to work through blocks, refine your skills, and discover new perspectives that can enrich your approach to the technique.

During the process of learning shibari, it is common to encounter obstacles that slow your progress—from basic details, such as positioning the arms correctly in a gote (後手), to more advanced challenges, such as performing fluid suspensions.

To address these difficulties, we have designed a specialized workshop without a fixed syllabus. Instead, it adapts to each couple’s actual needs, focusing on consolidating technique and improving its efficiency in practice. We also address questions about session management and erotic desire, integrating these elements into the technical analysis to support a realistic and fulfilling practice.

Our approach combines advanced technical knowledge and practical experience with a fresh perspective that encourages you to rethink shibari from alternative angles.

This is especially valuable when you encounter a plateau, as it fosters creative, personalized solutions that go beyond simply repeating the same movements.

In many cases, these difficulties stem from an incomplete understanding of the technical foundations, leading to mechanical repetition without room for development.

Without a solid foundation, practice becomes stuck in imitation, the risk of injury increases, and the ability to adapt to real-life or creative situations is reduced. Over time, the practice can become boring or lose its sense of passion.

Understanding each technical element in depth allows you not only to correct mistakes but also to innovate and apply what you have learned in new ways. This helps break repetitive patterns and create unexpected scenarios.

Class Format

Each class focuses on one technique or question, allowing for an intensive and tailored approach.

There is no fixed program or standard duration, as everything depends on each couple’s specific needs. A session may last only a few hours if the goal is to clarify a basic detail, while advanced topics may require several sessions to revisit the fundamentals and build on a solid foundation.

In fact, questions about advanced techniques often lead us back to basic principles, as this is where the root of the problem frequently lies. Addressing those foundations ensures genuine, sustainable progress.

Continuing Your Training

We normally recommend putting what you learn into practice straight away as a way to review and reinforce the material. For consolidation workshops, however, we recommend the opposite: leave the ropes aside for a few days so you can first process the new approaches mentally, and only then bring them into your practice.

Shibari Technical Fundamentals Training

Shibari Technical Fundamentals Training

Workshop

This workshop is suitable for all levels: from those approaching shibari for the first time out of curiosity to those with a beginner-level approach who want to explore its foundations from a clearly erotic perspective.

In this particular workshop, most of the physical work falls to the bound partner. They must first learn to understand and listen to their own body, and then communicate that information to the tying partner, who can adapt their technique accordingly.

The tying partner, in turn, will gain tools for identifying subtle changes in the bound partner’s body and behavior. They will also learn how to pace the session and manage it progressively and responsively, along with a fresh and clarifying perspective on the techniques involved in handling and managing the interaction.

Workshop Content

We begin by placing shibari in context: what it is, what its erotic dimension involves, and how the practice can enrich the couple’s interaction and relationship.

From there, we work through three areas:

  • Session management — Kyoshogaku (急所学): Understanding and modulating the elements that make up a session.
  • Body movement — Taijutsu (體術): Studying posture, balance, tension, and range of motion to understand and optimize the use of the body during a session.
  • Rope technique — Nawasuji (縄筋): Becoming familiar with the equipment and the manual processes and skills involved in using it, including fluid rope handling and tension control.

On this foundation, we introduce basic restraint techniques, including knots such as Hon Musubi (本結び) and structures such as Ikue Shibari (幾重縛り). This is particularly useful for those starting from scratch or looking to return to their practice through a logical, structured system.

We teach you how to adapt shibari technique to each person, each body, and each situation. Our approach is personalized and accommodates all levels and degrees of experience.

Continuing Your Training

The study of technical fundamentals cannot be standardized. Everyone has different circumstances, time constraints, and interests, so each couple’s pace of study and progress will be different.

Assimilating the techniques and skills takes time. We recommend spacing classes at least one month—or 45 days—apart, as our methodology is progressive. You cannot move forward effectively until you have developed the techniques and tools covered in the previous class.

Shibari Introduction Class

Shibari introduction class

This is an introductory shibari class for couples who want to approach this Japanese practice from a warm, ethical, and professional perspective. You’ll explore erotic creativity without the pressure of mastering complex techniques right away.

Delivered as a private class—one couple per session—so you get focused attention and personalized guidance through demonstrations, explanations, and hands-on corrections tailored to your pace.
The session covers the history, aesthetics, and erotic context of shibari, with safety, communication, and personal responsibility in intimate interactions as core pillars.
Note: eroticism isn’t pornography. This is an educational setting, and no one will ever be asked to do anything they’re not comfortable with.

You’ll learn basic rope handling and foundational techniques, plus simple ties for safe restraint, all with that distinctive Japanese aesthetic that highlights the beauty of the human body in an erotic context.
The goal is to experience shibari firsthand and satisfy your curiosity, so you can make an informed decision about whether it fits your personal and relationship dynamics.

In all our courses, we use our own teaching method, #MSAFE (Make Shibari Accessible For Everyone). With MSafe, both partners—the one tying and the one being tied—share equal power and stay actively engaged.
In other words, there’s no “passive” person who just “lets things happen”: erotic shibari is a two-person practice. From this stance, technique adapts to each couple, their circumstances, and their preferences.

Duration: half-day (4 hours). Price: €90 per couple.
Enrollment includes an ipponnawa (一本縄) starter kit: two ready-to-use ropes, 5 mm in diameter—one 2 m long and one 8 m long—so you can practice what you’ve learned at home.

Yagami Ryu Shibari Course – Shoden

Yagami Ryu Shibari Course – Shoden

The Shoden course (初伝, first level) in the Yagami Ryu style (矢神流) is taught by Sr. Interior, a certified instructor following the official, traditional Yagami Ryu curriculum.

We are the only authorized dojo in Spain offering instruction in this shibari style.

Training is available in English and Spanish.

Course Content

The course combines theory with guided practice, allowing students to integrate the style’s techniques smoothly and harmoniously into their own shibari practice.

The course covers Yagami Ryu’s technical foundations (基本) and basic forms (型), progressively developing the skills required to manage a session, along with techniques for handling the body both on the ground and in suspension. The work is organized around three areas:

  • Technique: Understanding and applying the style’s foundations.
  • Management: Reading the body, managing physical and emotional responses, communicating, and making decisions during practice.
  • Experience: Integrating technique into the couple’s experience through the active and conscious participation of both roles.

Course Structure

Class 1 — Foundations

An introduction to Yagami Ryu’s technical foundations and basic principles. The knowledge and skills required to begin studying the style on solid ground.

Class 2 — Restraint and First Forms

An introduction to restraint techniques, both in handling the body and using rope, along with the style’s first characteristic forms. These techniques apply the foundations covered in the first class.

Class 3 — Management and Applications

Combining the foundations with the techniques needed to create more complex forms and executions. To do this, we study the style’s five classical forms.

Class 4 — Progressions

Integrating the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course to build a comprehensive understanding of the style. The work gradually progresses from ground-based practice to suspension and requires a precise understanding of both technique and bodily responses.

Class 5 — Staging (Optional)

An optional class for those who want to explore the style’s dynamic, visually striking potential and apply it to photography, performance, or content creation.

Course Duration

Everyone has a different learning pace, amount of time available for practice, and personal circumstances. For this reason, we do not set a fixed duration for the program or impose a schedule with deadlines.

Each class is designed to involve approximately 10–12 hours of work at the dojo. This refers to in-person training time and does not mean that a class must necessarily be completed in a single session.

After each training session at the dojo, you need time to absorb the material, practise, and develop the fluency required before moving on.

The program is sequential: you do not advance to the next class until you have achieved a sufficient level of proficiency and ease with the techniques covered previously.

This approach also reflects the nature of learning itself. Acquiring the foundations and basic principles is usually the most demanding part and requires the most time. Once these concepts have been assimilated, the learning curve becomes steeper, making it easier to incorporate new material.

How Do We Recommend Scheduling the Classes?

We recommend completing each class as one intensive full-day session or dividing it into two consecutive half-day sessions.

A heavier workload is generally not advisable because of the physical and intellectual intensity of the training.

Between classes, we recommend allowing approximately two months for practice, assimilation, and consolidation of the skills acquired.

These time frames are recommendations, not requirements. The final pace will depend on each person and their learning process.

Not Sure How to Organize Your Training?

Get in touch and we will design a custom program adapted to your learning pace, availability, and needs.

Course Syllabus

Areas of Study

Yagami Ryu organizes its training into three main areas:

  • Nawasuji (縄筋): Rope techniques.
  • Taijutsu (體術): Body techniques.
  • Kyoso-Gaku (急所学): Management techniques.

These areas do not operate independently. Applying a technique may require knowledge from all three, and the learning process gradually involves understanding how they relate to one another.

Application Methods

  • Shoden Keito (初傳系統): Strict and associated with stronger, more structured work.
  • Toginawa Keito (徳縄): Fluid and oriented toward a gentler, more flowing approach.

These two approaches make it possible to study different ways of using the rope and relating to the body, the technique, and the rhythm of the session.

The Five Classical Forms

The forms studied at the first level belong to the Shoden Keito (初傳系統) lineage:

  • Koden Shibari (古傳縛り)
  • Kaeshinawa Shibari (返縄縛り)
  • Ippon Shibari (壱本縛り)
  • Wakizarashi (脇晒し)
  • Kannuki Shibari (門縛り)

These forms provide different ways of using the body and applying control techniques. With the exception of Kannuki Shibari, the others are taught in their basic form using a single rope.

The aim of this first level is not to accumulate a large number of forms. The learning process is structured progressively so that quantity of information never replaces genuine understanding.

Fuchin (浮沈)

Fuchin (浮沈) is one of the main body-control techniques studied at the first level of the system.

Three Control Techniques

Alongside Fuchin, this level covers three additional control techniques:

  • Tetori Sankaku (手取三角)
  • Kote Tori (小手取)
  • Tenbindori (天坪鳥)

These techniques are combined in different ways across the five basic forms.

The learning process therefore follows a clear sequence:

  1. Understand the concepts and principles.
  2. Learn how to perform the techniques.
  3. Develop the ability to apply and adapt them.

This progression leads from technical understanding toward increasingly independent application.

Certification

Yagami Ryu is a school structured into several levels or grades, awarding certificates as students progress in their knowledge.

Student certificates are issued by instructors. Instructor certificates can only be issued by Yagami Ren.

Once you complete the Yagami Ryu Shibari Style Course, you may have the opportunity to receive certification as a student of the Ryu.

Certification is awarded individually, regardless of role, because in Yagami Ryu both partners are considered equal and must know and understand the techniques involved. In other words, both tying partners and bound partners may be certified.

A student certificate does not authorize you to teach. Instructor certification requires specific training and can only be granted by Yagami Ren.

Certification Requirements

To receive certification, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Attendance and participation: Attend all scheduled classes and take an active part in both the practical and theoretical sessions.
  • Understanding of the techniques: Demonstrate a sound understanding of Yagami Ryu shibari techniques and apply the principles taught during the course.
  • Ability to apply the techniques: At the end of the course, complete an assessment demonstrating your understanding and the skills you have acquired within the Ryu.

Important: Certification is awarded exclusively to students who have demonstrated a commitment to learning Yagami Ryu shibari and have successfully met the established assessment criteria.
